Leon F. Hamilton of Florence passed away into God's loving and eternal care Saturday, May 13, 2017, at home. He was 88.
Born in Florence, he was a lifelong resident. Leon retired 22 years ago as an instrument repairman for the Naval Air Propulsion Center in Ewing after 16 years of service. Prior to this he worked at the CF&I Corp. in Roebling for 26 years.
In his earlier years he served in the National Guard and he was also a member of the Florence Township of Deborah Hospital and the Florence United Methodist Church.
He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball team fan and for many years, he and his wife, along with another couple attended the home games in Philadelphia as well as many out of state games.
Leon was passionate about farming. He operated a farm on his property and sold vegetables at his roadside market.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Beatrice Bitler Hamilton; his four daughters, Nancy Petros (Joseph) of Clarkesville, Pa., Shirley Hamilton (Mary Dodds) of Smithville, Tenn., Cathy Wensley (James) of Wakefield, Mass., and Mildred Hamilton-Wood (the late William) of Florence; his six grandchildren, Robert, Andrew, and Daniel Wensley and Stephanie, Scott and Samantha Wood; and a sister, Mildred Reamer (Les) of Florence. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Helen Nixon Hamilton; and his sisters, Elizabeth Wilson, Doris Skeenes and Carol Lee.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front Street, Florence. Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 .am. Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Florence.
